Deeplearning.ai Ambassador

Work without thinking of rewards, you might not think big enough

In my journey of becoming relevant, I started learning data science and took this specialization on deep learning by Andrew Ng in 2017.

The most valuable part of the specialization was Course 3 (Structuring Machine Learning Projects). Prof. Ng talks about a myriad of strategies to help improve your algorithm’s performance. I appreciate that this course imparts knowledge that isn’t readily available on the Internet and instead comes from experience. After completing that course, I felt so indebted that I wrote a 3-post series about it here on Medium.

Exactly a year back, one of the team members from Andrew’s team reached out to me through this blog post. I got an amazing opportunity of becoming one of the 20 deeplearning.ai ambassadors across the globe. Through the second half of last year, we helped the core team with our suggestions, had my fan-girl moment on a video call with Andrew Ng and wrote a few things for the new deeplearning.ai website.

One of the questions I asked Andrew was ‘Is it really necessary to have a formal degree in Data Science to excel as a professional?’

He said it isn’t the only way to excel but it sure makes it easier. He then went on to give examples of his colleagues who weren’t PhDs and how he was astonished to later discover that

While writing those blog posts on Course 3, not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined meeting THE Andrew Ng.

That’s what you call serendipity!
